The Neighborhood is proud to partner with Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s annual Open Stages spring festival. On Saturday, May 11, The Neighborhood is taking over Greenspace @ President Street for a garden party featuring Jewish music from around the world.
The Global Jewish Jams stage will feature 3 performances from around the artistic Jewish world.
3:30 PM – 4:20 PM | Jacob’s Ladder
Jacob’s Ladder creates Jewish Americana music, fusing the folk roots of North America and Eastern Europe. Performing with Sofia Chiarandini on violin, Ariel Wyner on fiddle, and Daniel Ori on bass, Jacob’s Ladder will perform music which draws its influences from Jewish liturgy, bluegrass, Sefardi and Ashkenazi musical traditions, and more.
4:30 PM – 5:20 PM | Heym Un Veg
Heym Un Veg is a Yiddish Ukrainian theatrical music project from the Jewish songbird of Ukraine, Zhenya Lopatnik, with collaborators Oren Neiman (an Israeli-born guitarist) and Ivan Barenboim (an Argentinian clarinet player). Heym Un Veg threads together cultures and generations through Lopatnik’s rich repertoire of Yiddish songs with poetry by prominent Ukrainian Yiddish poets.
5:30 PM – 6:20 PM | Jonathan Cohen
Jonathan Cohen is a Brooklyn-based DJ, creating a distinctive sound that blends house, disco, funk, pop, and Middle Eastern influences. Drawing on his Mizrahi Jewish heritage, he incorporates melodies and chants from Middle Eastern pop stars, seamlessly mixing Hebrew, Arabic, and English. This unique fusion transcends cultural boundaries and creates a vibrant musical experience.
Open Stages is completely free and open to the public. See you in the garden!
