This presentation will showcase movement materials for Elad Schechter‘s upcoming creation, scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2024. Following the presentation, there will be an open discussion about the contemporary cultural landscape in Jerusalem, particularly in light of the events in Israel.

Elad Schechter is a dancer, choreographer, curator and cultural initiator. Schechter graduated from the Jerusalem High School for the Arts, and served in the IDF Theater department. He has danced in various dance companies, among them: Senedance NYC, the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Charleroi Danses (Brussels), Vertigo (Jerusalem) and more. Since 2009 Schechter has been creating works that have been presented hundreds of times in Israel and abroad. He is the recipient of the silver medal at the International Choreography Competition held in Beijing, July 2011. Elad Schechter lives in the Nachlaot neighborhood in Jerusalem and raises his two kids in a shared parenting structure with a two-mom couple.

Over the years Schechter has initiated, produced and curated these projects; ‘From Jaffa to Agripas’ Festival since 2014; ‘Alliance House’ – a home for creative communities; ‘Interstices’ Montréal-Jerusalem artistic exchange for cultural identity enhancement; ‘Room Service’ festival – a collaboration between the Jerusalem Street Orchestra and ‘Brown Hotels’ in Jerusalem.

Elad’s work is presented by The Neighborhood in partnership with Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation as part of RECESS: a monthly salon space where both works-in-progress and established pieces can be shared in an intimate setting. Innovation. Experimentation. Deep dives. Creative reviews. It’s all welcome here! RECESS is a safe space for exploration and forging new artistic connections. It’s an opportunity to engage performers, patrons, artists, and audience members in a night of performance and creative dialogue. RECESS continues to safely promote and celebrate the work of diverse artists in 2023.
