Mazza and More: Syrian Jewish Food Tour
Starting at Avenue U and Ocean Parkway
  • Arts and Culture
  • Food

Led by Sylvia Fallas, lifelong neighborhood resident, chef-educator and food blogger, this tour will explore the main arteries of the Brooklyn Syrian Jewish neighborhood. We will taste our way through the multi-generational shops, while learning about the community’s close knit culture. You’ll learn which bakery has the best pita, where to buy the essential ingredients, and which butcher sells mazza that’s as good as grandma’s. On this tour, you’ll surely fill your stomach and your pantry!

Sylvia is a Brooklyn-based food blogger, cooking instructor, and private chef. As a chef-educator, she teaches Jewish cultural cooking to students of all ages. Sylvia weaves Jewish history into her lessons, showing how Jewish cuisine truly is a melting pot. Her focus is simple, delicious, and healthy family meals with a twist. Although she has a BA in Health and Nutrition Sciences, she’s not afraid of butter! Follow her cooking adventures on Instagram @sylviafallas.

This event is one of a series of food tours of the diverse Jewish communities of Brooklyn presented by The Neighborhood in collaboration with The Gefilteria.
