12 communities, 11 events, 10 days – all under one roof.

The Neighborhood is excited to welcome you to Sukkot in The Neighborhood – a 10-day festival held in the Sukkah at Luria Academy of Brooklyn, designed by textile artist Hilla Shapira.

Throughout these 10 days, a range of communities representing the diversity of Jewish life in Brooklyn will gather in Lavender Diaspora, our community Sukkah space/immersive art installation.

We’ll be kicking things off on Friday September 29 with Welcome to The Sukkah: Shabbat Dinner and Zine Launch, to hear artists Hilla Shapira, Tom Haviv, and Jessica Tamar Deutsch present their latest work over dinner.

Then on Sunday October 1, we have Sukkot Jam, where we will engage with the symbols of the harvest holiday, relaxing in the Sukkah and experiencing the lavender dreamspace. This program is best-suited for kids ages 0-6 and their families.

On Tuesday October 3, we invite you to join us for SongCircle in The Neighborhood Sukkah. SongCircle is an invitation into the inclusive seasonal Sukkah space to raise our collective spirit together under the big sky as we enter into the new year.

Selah hosts Ecstatic Sukkah: A Ceremony of Impermanence on Wednesday October 4. In celebration of Simchat Beit Hashoeiva, we’ll gather for an ecstatic dance, delicious treats, live music, and an epic sound bath. Come dressed to move!

Finally, on Sunday October 8, Lab/Shul welcomes you to Unscrolled – as we “unroll the scroll” and celebrate cycles with the beginning of the new cycle of the Torah. An ancient ritual with our own Lab/Shul modern twists. Live music, dance, healing ritual, Torah-tarot, kids engagement and a pot-luck picnic.

We’re so excited to celebrate with you- come sit in the Sukkah!
