The Sabbath Dance is an ecstatic container for Jews and non-Jews alike to bring in Shabbat through the transformative power of dance. Join us at Gaia Nomaya in Central Brooklyn for a 3-part Shabbat experience led by Jewish poet and embodiment teacher Lawrence Dreyfuss, founder of AVAR, in collaboration with Temple of the Stranger and The Neighborhood.

We begin with an embodied warmup led by Jericho Vincent of Temple of the Stranger, using movement to explore the healing energies within the ancient sacred prayers of Kabbalat Shabbat. We then sweat our prayers in an ecstatic dance set let by performance artist and DJ Nessa Norich as we allow Maariv to flow through our bodies in a state of ecstatic release. Lastly, we melt into the stillness of Shabbat with a sound bath led by sound artist MBT that combines crystal singing bowls with the vibrations of sung Jewish melodies.

Come dressed to move and ready to sweat.

We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle to reduce plastic waste. Bottled water will also be available on-site.

This space values inclusivity. People are welcome of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, spiritual and religious backgrounds, body types, and physical abilities.
