The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life is excited to announce the inaugural Chanukah Doughnut Duel, hosted by Jeremy Jacobowitz–a delicious competition celebrating the beloved Chanukah tradition of eating doughnuts! Join us at the Moxy Hotel for an unforgettable evening filled with culinary creativity, festive cheer, and a taste of holiday spirit. This unique event will feature some of the city's most renowned chefs and popular restaurants–we will be joined by 12 Chairs, Breads Bakery, Fan-Fan Doughnuts, Kubeh, Mesiba, and Reunion–each showcasing their innovative takes on the classic Chanukah doughnut. Attendees will have the chance to sample a variety of flavors, from traditional jelly-filled to adventurous seasonal creations.

Jeremy Jacobowitz brings along his over 1 Million followers on his food adventures all over the world. Whether that's finding that hidden gem in NYC, the best omakase in Japan, or creating a fun recipe in his home kitchen studio, his audience is obsessed with all parts of his life. 12 Chairs Cafe

12 Chairs is an approachable neighbourhood restaurant that transports the restaurant clientele to Tel Aviv without leaving New York. We started out as a small cafe (hence the name) in artistic Soho and have since become a popular coffee shop / restaurant, with a second location in Williamsburg. Despite the many changes over the years, the one thing that remains the same is that all of the dishes are homemade and prepared to order. It has been a pillar of the community for more than 20 years through its warm and welcoming atmosphere and hospitality, to its electric vibes and delicious food! Committed to serving the freshest and highest-quality ingredients, the restaurant sources from both local markets and abroad to offer the perfect array of dishes that represents the melting pot that is Israel.

Breads Bakery

Breads Bakery is a quintessential New York bakery known for producing artisan, handmade breads and pastries, baked in small batches throughout the day to ensure unparalleled freshness. The bakery received many accolades including "Best of NY chocolate babka" by New York Magazine and “Best Baguette in NYC” by French Morning. Breads Bakery operates several bakeries throughout Manhattan including Union Square, the Upper West Side, Bryant Park, the Upper East Side, and Rockefeller Center.

Fan-Fan Doughnuts

At Fan-Fan we are dedicated to making great doughnuts, making people happy, and bringing people together. We want to celebrate diversity and are inspired by the flavors and traditions from around the globe.

We take a lot of care and pride in what we do. We make our doughnuts in small batches throughout the day so you will always have the freshest and often warm one! We try to get the best ingredients we can and there is so much thought, love, and care into every detail. At the end of the day, we strive to create a loving community and bring joy to the world.

Kubeh

Kubeh is the product of Chef Melanie Shurka, a restaurant dedicated to lesser known cuisines of the Middle East. Kubeh is named after a dish with widespread tradition across the Middle East and It comes in many forms. Sometimes there’s an outer dough-like shell and an inner filling, sometimes the ingredients are ground together into a ball; and sometimes it’s prepared in layers like a pie. It can be fried, boiled, baked or served raw. In any shape, Kubeh, or any dish we serve at Kubeh is comfort bundled in freshness and is a labor of love. Much like owner Melanie Shurka’s love for her heritage - Melanie Shurka is a native New Yorker of Israeli-Iranian and Ashkenazi Jewish descent. Melanie opened Kubeh to share the Middle Eastern dishes of her childhood with New York City, including traditional dishes for the holidays like latkes and sufganiyot. On the Jewish holidays you can find her pouring wine in a kiddush fountain and incorporating these traditions into her menu at her home and in the restaurant Kubeh in the West Village.

Mesiba

Born in the country of Georgia and emigrating to Holon, Israel at age 2, emerging chef Eli Buli of
Williamsburg’s newest Tel Avivian-inspired restaurant, Mesiba at the new Moxy Hotel Williamsburg was first exposed to the culinary industry while serving in the military for his country. After discovering his love for cooking, Buli was honorably discharged and took his
passion for the industry to work for some of Israel’s best restaurants, including chef Yonatan Roshfeld at Herbert Samuel in Tel Aviv, one of the best restaurants and chefs in the country. In 2017, he took his talent to New York City and leading the kitchen at Manhattan's Bustan on the Upper West Side. As the Executive Chef at Mesiba, chef Eli designed the menu around the ingredients and flavors he grew up with in Israel with a focus on the sustainable, rich and local
produce New York offers.

Reunion

Reunion was built on memories. Reunion was created of our longing to our home, our city. With all its flavors, scents and sounds. Since we opened our doors, back in 2014, we are writing our love letter to Tel Aviv.
