What is your organization's mission?
Fig Tree is an independent Jewish education program for children ages 3 – 13. The purpose of Fig Tree is to provide a rich and accessible Jewish education to kids from Jewish+ (interfaith), interracial and/ or secular backgrounds- or simply to families seeking a Hebrew School alternative. Our mission is to instill pride and encourage growth of Jewish identity in our students, rooted in a strong foundation of Jewish religion, culture and heritage.

What activities do you offer?
In a fun and inclusive environment, students age 3-13 learn about Jewish holidays, ritual, culture, history and text experientially: through art, crafting, games, drama, filmmaking, cooking, gardening, and so much more. Our trimesters reflect the seasonal themes of the Jewish calendar, and diverse topics are covered in an age-appropriate manner. Jewish values of charity, social justice and environmental preservation are emphasized, and are infused throughout our curriculum. We also teach foundational Hebrew in every lesson, and offer separate beginner and intermediate Hebrew language classes.

How would you describe your community?
Joyful, welcoming, warm, fun, incredibly diverse!

Are there places and times you frequently meet?
Our classes are held: Sundays and weekdays in Park Slope, weekdays in Carroll Gardens, and weekdays in Fort Greene/ Clinton Hill. Various Jewish gatherings throughout Brooklyn!
